Learning to drive is a milestone, and parents who pay for lessons want to know how it’s going: how many hours their teen has driven, what skills were practiced, and when the road test is. A driving school invoice can answer all of that while it bills the lesson package. This Driving School Invoice Template does it with a lesson log and instructor notes, beside a strip of asphalt road running down the full length of the left edge, complete with a dashed yellow center line and a small blue car.

Driving Schools and Independent Instructors

It suits licensed driving schools, independent driving instructors, teen driver education programs, adult and refresher lesson providers, and motorcycle and truck training schools. The sample shows Green Light Driving Academy invoicing the parent of a sixteen-year-old for a teen ten-hour package, an online classroom course, road test car and escort, and school pickups.

A Road Running Down the Page

The left edge of the page is a strip of dark asphalt with white edge lines and a dashed yellow center line from top to bottom. Partway down, a small blue car with light windows drives up the road. At the top of the main area, a red-bordered STUDENT DRIVER plate sits beside the title, Driving School Invoice, in heavy Encode Sans, with the school name and license in blue and the contact line beneath.

The student block records the student, their permit number, and the parent; the facts show the invoice number, package, and road test date. The behind-the-wheel log lists date, lesson, skills practiced, hours, and instructor. A second table lists the package items. Instructor notes sit beside the totals.

A Typical Teen Driver Program

Requirements vary by state, but many teen programmes follow a similar pattern:

StageWhat happensTypical length
Classroom or online courseRules of the road, safety, signsAbout 30 hours
Learner permitWritten test at the licensing officeOne visit
Behind-the-wheel lessonsSupervised driving with an instructor6-10 hours
Practice with parentsLogged supervised drivingOften 40-50 hours

Reading the Behind-the-Wheel Log

Each lesson has its own line: date, lesson number, skills practiced, hours, and instructor. In the sample, Ava has completed five two-hour lessons, progressing from controls and parking-lot basics to residential streets, left turns and traffic lights, highway merging, and parallel parking on the test route. Parents can see the progression at a glance, and the log counts towards state-required hours.

Package Fees

The teen package of ten behind-the-wheel hours costs $525, the online classroom course $95, the road test car and escort $125, and five school pickups $50, a total of $795.00. After $300 paid at enrollment, $495.00 is due. Many schools require the balance before the road test.

Instructor Notes for Parents

The instructor notes give parents practical guidance: in the sample, confident on highways, keep practicing parallel parking and full stops, and bring the permit and glasses to the road test. Specific, encouraging notes help parents focus their own practice drives, which is where most of the learning happens.

Editing the Log and Package

The lesson log, package table, and totals are editor tables. Double-click them or open Edit Table Data; + Add Row and – Remove Last change the number of lessons or items. Hours and prices are typed values, so total them and subtract any payments made yourself.

Road Test Day

Many families use the school’s car for the road test because it has a dual brake and the student knows it. Record the test date, time, and location in the facts, and list the test car and escort as a line. If the student needs a retest, bill it as a separate appointment.

Adult Learners and Refresher Lessons

Adults learning later in life, new residents converting a foreign license, and older drivers wanting a confidence refresher all book lessons too. Adapt the student block and log for them, and use hourly lessons rather than a teen package.

Changing the Road and Colors

The road strip is a group of shapes; recolor the asphalt or the center line, or move the car further up or down the page. The blue accent and the red Student Driver plate can change to your school colors. Some schools use a green L plate instead; replace the text on the plate.

Sending Invoices to Parents

This invoice is designed for letter-size paper. Email it to the parent after each block of lessons or when the balance is due. Parents often need receipts for teen driver insurance discounts, so a clear invoice with the school’s license number is useful.

Cancellations and No-Shows

Lessons are booked in fixed time slots with an instructor and car. Most schools charge for lessons canceled at short notice, often less than 24 hours. State your policy at enrollment and list any late cancellation as a line on the invoice with the date.

Parent Practice Between Lessons

Instructors teach the skills, but most of a teen’s driving experience comes from practice with parents. Encourage parents to drive the same routes and practice the same skills listed in the log, starting in quiet areas and building up to busier roads and night driving. Many states require a signed log of supervised hours before the road test, so remind parents to keep theirs up to date alongside the school’s record.

Dual Controls and Insurance

Driving school cars have a second brake pedal on the passenger side and are insured for learner drivers, which is why the road test car line appears on many invoices. Mentioning the dual controls and insurance in your enrollment information reassures nervous parents that their teen is learning safely.
