Why we built this

Most invoicing tools bundle a document generator with a much bigger product — accounting software, payment processing, client management — and gate the basic act of "make me a PDF invoice" behind a signup form, a trial period, or a subscription. For a freelancer sending their first invoice, a small business owner billing a one-off client, or anyone who just needs a document today, that's a lot of friction for a simple task.

We built FreeOnlineInvoice.com to solve the actual problem: a fast, good-looking, accurate invoice, with no strings attached. If you later need full accounting software, this probably isn't a replacement for that — but for the everyday task of billing someone, it should be all you need.

What makes it different

• No signup, ever. There's no account system to build a profile behind. Open the editor and start typing.
• Your data stays with you. Everything you enter lives in your browser unless you click "Download PDF" — see our Privacy Policy for the specifics.
• Real template variety. 50+ templates spanning minimal, corporate, creative, construction, medical, legal, luxury, and more — not one design with a color picker.
• Built for how billing actually varies. A construction work order and a legal retainer invoice don't need the same fields. The editor adapts to the document type you pick — customs fields for commercial invoices, milestone tracking for progress billing, hourly breakdowns for freelance work, and more, across 65+ supported invoice and receipt types.
• Accurate math, always. Discounts, multiple tax rates, shipping, deposits, and retainage are calculated with integer-safe arithmetic so totals never drift from rounding errors.

How we keep it free

Running the Service costs money — hosting, PDF rendering, bandwidth — and we're upfront that we may introduce optional paid features in the future to help cover that. Any core functionality that's free today (the editor, the templates, the PDF export) will remain available as described on this site at the time; we won't retroactively lock features you were already using for free. Who we are

We're a three-person team — two web developers and a web designer — who've worked together for more than a decade building back-office systems for corporate clients: accounting platforms, payroll software, benefits enrollment tools. The unglamorous infrastructure that keeps a business actually running.

Billing and invoicing modules came up on more of those projects than we can count, and we kept noticing the same disconnect: a team with a genuine, immediate need for one correct invoice was reaching for a Word template that broke its own formatting, or paying for a full accounting suite to do one small task, because nothing simple actually existed in between. FreeOnlineInvoice.com is us finally building the tool we kept wishing our own clients had — no account, no subscription, just a correct, good-looking invoice out the other end.
